Lanre Gentry Husband of Nollywood Actress Mercy Aibge Remanded In Ikoyi Prison For Wife Battering.

Lanre Gentry , estranged spouse of Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe has been remanded in Ikoyi Prison for alleged wife battering , in the latest twist of the domestic violence drama .

He was arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrate Court on a three- count charge of domestic violence, assault, and threat to life which he pleaded not guilty to .

Gentry was granted bail in the sum of N500 ,000 with two sureties in the like sum . The sureties must show proof of tax payment and own houses in Lagos with title documents. He was also ordered to remain in prison until he meets the bail demands .

Police prosecutor , Inspector N. Peter told the court that Gentry on April 17 , conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by constituting nuisance and behaving in a disorderly manner in a public place . Peter added that Gentry unlawfully assaulted his wife by beating her with physical blows all over her body and also caused Mercy Aigbe ’s grievous bodily harm after giving her a blow on the nose, with blood gushing out.

Peter said the offense committed by Gentry was contrary to and punishable under sections 157 ( f) , 168 (a ) and 171 of the Criminal Law No II , Vol . 44 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011 .

According to Premium Times, Gentry was initially asked to appear in court on Monday following a physical assault charge leveled against him by the Lagos State Department of Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team . He , however , failed to show up in court saying he was admitted in a Lagos hospital for an undisclosed ailment .

His estranged wife then took to her Instagram account on Monday morning to raise an alarm that her husband was trying to evade arrest with the help of the police . Her close friend , Lara Olubo also claims to have witnessed Lanre Gentry abusing his wife .

The couple was married for seven years and the union produced a son . While it is Mercy ’s second marriage , it is her husband ’s third marriage .

The case has been adjourned till 12 May for

DSS ARRESTS IFEANYI UBAH OVER N11B OIL THEFT

Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited , Ifeanyi Ubah has been arrested by the Department of State Services.
His arrested , was apparently , revealed today in a statement by spokesman , Tony Opuiyo .
Opuiyo aid Ubah was arrested on Friday in connection the theft of petrol kept in his tank farm in Lagos by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation . The product was valued at over N11 billion .
The agency said Ubah’s action amounted to economic sabotage , with “ capacity to negatively impact on national economy ” .
Opuiyo gave additional reasons for Ubah ’s arrest. He said he has further engaged in other activities inimical to national security and Public order 

“ In furtherance of his gimmicks to undermine the government and people of Nigeria , he has incited members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD ), a critical player in the downstream sub - sector of the Petroleum Industry , to refuse / stop the lifting of products .

“ This is part of his plans to curry their sentiments and cause them to embark on strike and also stage protests in his favour with the ulterior motive of arm -twisting the NNPC to abandon the cause of recovering the stolen products . The implications of this on law and order is , in fact , a common knowledge . It is consequent upon this that the Service arrested and will prosecute him forthwith .

“ The public is hereby reassured that the Service will collaborate with appropriate agencies to ensure that the mischievous activities of any person or group (s ) to engage in illegal activities will not affect the effective distribution of products across the country . It will also support such agencies to bring to book individuals or companies involved in any criminal act that undermines the nation ’s economy” .

Nollywood actress and divorced mother of two , Georgina Onuoha has aired her opinion on the alarming rate of domestic violence in the country .

The actress who took to her Instagram page , and accused the government of failing to act against domestic violence, advised women to walk away from abusive relationships as it ’s no crime being a single lady or a single mom, wrote :

Love does not hurt . What you love , you protect.

The rate of domestic violence in Nigeria is alarming . Yet, our elected officials are mute about it . No Legislation put in place to protect against domestic violence and to punish its perpetrators . Why have we become immune to it ? Domestic violence is no respectal of class , status , fame , religion or creed .

Is no one immune from it man or woman ?

Why remain in an abusive relationship ? To please society ? To have the title of Mrs or Mr after your name ? For fortune , fame or pleasure ? It starts slowly and metamorphoses into a beast you can ’t control.

Why not leave to Live?

So many have died and many more dying as I write this . You should love yourself enough not to let anyone scar you. Why do women protect their abusers ?

There is no shame in walking away. Do not conform to what society sets for you as standards of marriage or relationship . Every faith should condemn violence.

To my brothers ; Why hit the one you claim to love ? What happened to walking away?

What will you do if your mother , sister , daughter or aunt calls you or come home with a battered face? will you defend them against their abusers or tell them ‘such is life because you are guilty of same crime ’? Would you protect them? If yes , why would you subject someone else ’s daughter to the same faith of abuse?

Only cowards hit women and people? Woman hear word!!

Walk away, if you fall out of love with your loved one , please explain it to the people your decision will affect the most directly and walk away. It becomes a burden when you want to eat your cake and have it . Emotions and feelings are strong. It ’s better to shed a few tears temporary than being scared for life or worst of all end 6 feet .

Kids learn from where they live and grow. Home is their first school , they exhibit what they see their parents do . Protect them so they don ’ t grow up thinking it ’s normal to hit or abuse anyone .

Please let ’s end this vicious cycle. My heart goes out to all going through this phase and any who has been through this phase . The scars might heal but the wounds linger forever. Walk away while you can . # No shame in being a single lady # No shame in being a single mom.
